Power Steering Pulley, URO Aluminum - E82 135i/1m, E9X 335i, N54

This part is listed by BMW as BMW part number 32427553955 (32 42 7 553 955) and is described as the power steering pump pulley for N54 twin-turbo models - E82 135i and 1M Coupe, and E90/E92/E93 335i / 335xi / 335is. This pulley can be used on vehicles with or without the active steering option. Unlike factory or OEM pulleys this one is made from aluminum and it's risk of cracking or exploding is much less. The factory pulley is made of plastic and can form cracks or chips that can weaken the pulley and possibly lead to total failure. A broken PS pump pulley will fling sharp plastic around your engine bay and possibly even shred the belt (leading to belt ingestion).

In some cases the engine and pulley can contact the lower subframe, such as over sharp bumps. Worn engine mounts make this more likely. A pulley that contacts the subframe should be replaced as soon as possible as it's strutcutal integrity is now highly questionable.

Note: while aluminum is stronger it may not be the ideal solution. The original plastic pulley is the weak link in the system - a damaged pulley can be replaced cheaply and quickly. A stronger part means that something else further down the line will fail instead. We haven't seen any other failures with this aluminum pulley but a disclaimer should be noted that it doesn't make damage impossible.

This part is manufactured by an aftermarket supplier of European auto parts, including many engine components. While not carrying OEM status, this part follows the design of the original very closely and uses similar materials. An aftermarket part may even have the same TUV approval as its OEM counterpart. The brand may even be OEM to another manufacturer besides BMW. This aftermarket brand has a two year warranty - the same as Genuine BMW and OEM brands.
