The rubber intake boot connects the air flow sensor with the ASC throttle body on the 1996-1999 E36 318i & Z3 1.9 (M44 engine). This includes 1996, 1997, 1998 model 318i Sedan, 1996-1999 318is Coupe, 1996-1999 318ic Convertible, and 1996-1999 318ti Compact / hatchback.
This intake boot is after the air filter and mass air meter so any rips or tears on the boot material will allow unfiltered and unmetered air into the M44 engine. And since vacuum and air pressure within the engine are closely managed, any air leak can be a serious problem.
Air leaks from a cracked intake boot can cause your M44 powered E36 or Z3 to run rough, poor idle, throttle surging, stumbling, hesitations, and misfires. These can be caused by other things but a leak in the intake boot is easy to check and inexpensive to fix!
This is the Genuine BMW rubber intake boot and comes with a two year warranty.
