Vibration Damper / Crank Pulley, OEM - N52 Auto E9X E82/E88 E60 E70 E83

This part is listed by BMW as BMW part number 11237564969 and is described as Corteco OEM Vibration Damper. This part is a critical piece for the serpentine drive belt system, providing power to all belt driven accessories, as well as damping any crank shaft vibrations. Due to its vibration damping properties, this part is also commonly known as a Harmonic Balancer, and it quite literally helps keep the crank vibration in harmonic balance happy and smooth. 

This crank pulley assembly was used on many automatic transmission N52 powered BMW models from about 2006 through about 2013 or so. Specific fitments include: 

 - E82/E88 128i Auto (2008, 2009,2010, 2011, 2012, 2013) 
 - E90/E91 325i, 325xi, 328i, 328xi Auto Sedan/Wagon (2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012) 
 - E92/E93 328i Auto Coupe/Convertible (2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013) 
 - E60/E61 525i, 525xi, 528i, 528xi, 530i, 530xi Automatic (2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010) 
 - E83 X3 3.0si Auto (2007, 2008, 2009, 2010) 
 - E70 X5 3.0si / xDrive30i Auto (6 cylinder NA N52)** (without Adaptive Drive or 4-Zone Climate, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010).

On E70 X5 3.0si / xDrive30i Models: NOT for cars with Adaptive Drive or 4-Zone Automatic Climate Control

There are a few common failures fort he crank pulley. One way this part can fail is if the serpentine belt slips off the pulleys (possibly from an oil filter housing oil leak) and gets wrapped around the crank pulley – or worse, ingested through the front crank seal. Another common failure is is the vibration damper gets frozen / seized into one locked position, which will cause a terrible vibration through the crankshaft, literally causing the engine to shake. If not immediately remedied, a failed crank pulley can cause extensive engine damage, including catastrophic crank shaft failure.
