This part is listed by BMW as BMW part number 11531704704 and is described as Thermostat for the M73 V12 engine from 1995 to 1998. This thermostat is rated at 90 degrees C, and used on the later V12 models found in the E31 850Ci as well as the E38 750il in 1995, 1996, 1997, and 1998.
Not for cars after the 1998 model year. The V12 found in the later (post 1998) model 750iL used a different thermostat. This one is ONLY for models up to and including the 1998 model year.
On this V12 models, the thermostat install directly into a housing on the water pump. This original BMW replacement includes the aluminum cover as well as the gasket / seal ring.
