Most of the trim on your BMW is held in place by a plastic rivet like this. These are a cheap, effective, light weight, easy to use, and usually reusable fastener. They work similar to a metal pop rivet - push the center post in and the "legs" expand to a larger diameter. Improperly removing them will usually destroy them and new ones are required. Buy a few to keep as spares (priced each).
